Nadia Elena Comaneci

In the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, the athlete became an international sensation when she scored the first perfect ten in asymmetric bars. Additionally she scored another six perfect 10s which made her the youngest Olympic gold medalist at just 14 years old. The accomplishment of Nadia Comaneci was not only to get international attention, but she also put Romania into the limelight. In achieving a result that was unattainable the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics into the spotlight of the world's interest. This also influenced the public's view of female gymnasts. Her impact was so significant during the Olympics that an uneven bars sport has two moves named after her: toe-on and release, both of which remain rated at a high difficulty level. Besides Olympics the gymnast showed a remarkable performances at the World Championships and European Championships as well, thus becoming an icon and one of the best-known gymnasts that the world can ever have. She also modeled and promoted sports gear after she moved into the US.
