In the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, the athlete became an international sensation when she scored the first perfect ten in asymmetric bars. Additionally she scored another six perfect 10s which made her the youngest Olympic gold medalist at just 14 years old. The accomplishment of Nadia Comaneci was not only to get international attention, but she also put Romania into the limelight. In achieving a result that was unattainable the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics into the spotlight of the world's interest. This also influenced the public's view of female gymnasts.
